Joy was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She received her bachelor’s degree in history from Luther College in 2003. In 2005, Joy ventured into the legal field and worked as a legal assistant and office manager for 13 years before joining Howes Law Firm, P.C. in 2018. A resident of Vinton, Joy spends her free time reading, practicing yoga, and baking for her husband and two children.
